Waterproof Videocamera

gopro HD camera
I am almost at the point to buy a waterproof videocamera. I would like to do HD surfvideo's, to shoot speedsurfing action, lifestyle and much more... While having hundreds of idea's and being very enthousiastic, the costs are a bit the downside of the whole plan. The Gopro HD helmet cam + SD card = €400,-. Would it be worth investing this much money for speedsurfingblog videos. Compared to everything else ($10,-/year domaincosts) this is much more money.

Buying the camera yes or no??? For €400,- I also could last 1 month longer without work. Difficult decision...

I don't want to give all idea's already away (otherwise there is no surprise), I would start with these videos:
  • 1 About speedsurfing video, a video to point out the whole idea of speedsurfing. What is making speedsurfing such a nice addicting sport. For non-windsurfers and non-speedsurfers.
  • A few tuning tips on video. For speedsurfers.
  • Video featuring (small) crossings (10-30km) which I am planning to do. For getting more attention from non-windsurfers.
  • Spotreview video's, can it be easier to check out by video if a spot suits your needs?? For people that are looking for holiday/ alternative places to windsurf.
  • much more...
Is there a place you can buy the gopro HD helmet cam cheap??? So far buying directly at the gopro website is the best price.

  1. If you consider to buy the GoPro HD bare in mind that the cam has a wide angle lens. That's great for windsurfing. The picture quality is great, but I don't think it's good for showing instructions regarding spots, gear and howto's...

In that case I would consider a "normal" HD cam. Nevertheless I think it's a great idea to see you making these kind of movies, cause there is not much ( or none really....! ) instructional stuff about speedsurfing. Your articles are always great, so I think it will be the next level to see those tips, tricks and tuning on film.

Looking forward to that and if you like, you might consider buying my GoPro....unfortunaly it's not an HD version. About the price; try to get one from the US if someone is getting over there soon, saves a few euros. :-)

  3. Correct, try to score a good HD video camera and ask your brother to shoot the footage; he's got the experience :)
Would be great to see some speedsurfing tips, tricks, how-to's on youtube or vimeo...

  4. There is some good news, Sonntag Fins is thinking to invest in some waterproof camera. We will use the camera for investigation the foils in action.

But I can also use the camera for producing other videos. Also I have got a oregon helmet cam from a wad1team member to try.

Enough things going on, only the wind, where is it???

    ;)

  5. Today I also ordered a gopro HD helmet(with a 8gb card for 350€).

I will try to experiment with some mastmount setups and maybe some footage from a herkingen-day, because it's always spectacular to enter the herkingen-speedstrip. ;-)
